I’m a busy girl who’s always on the go. I’ve got sets to be on, trains and planes to catch, and dinner dates with my love. So of course, I need to know the time!
Unlike some people who think looking at their phone is the best way to know what time it is, I still love a good watch. Maybe it’s because I grew up in Switzerland – I appreciate the delicate beauty of a good time piece.
When I was last in London, I got the chance to meet the team behind a new kind of watch – one that is kind to animals: Votch.
Laura, the founder, told me the story behind why she decided to launch a watch brand that never uses leather straps:
“A few years back I was struck down with a condition that left me bath bound for many months, during that time I watched many documentaries on animal welfare and the leather industry. I knew when I got better I had to create something where I could make a change.
Finding accessories that are stylish but cruelty free isn’t always that easy, and when an old watch strap broke and finding a decent vegan leather replacement was nigh impossible, the idea for Votch was born”.
I fall in love with this brand because of that cruelty-free spirit, and because this is one eco-friendly brand with a lovely, simple style.
I was delighted to do a shoot with Laura’s husband, the photographer Simon Way, in central London and at the famous vegetarian restaurant Le Pain Quotidien.
It was great to shoot around in some typical London style neighborhoods. We were lucky enough with the weather as it started to rain right after we finished the shoot. Typical English weather!
I enjoyed it a lot! The couple is so nice and know their objectives. No leather, not even organic salmon silks and a fresh, happy and fashionable spirit!
Perfect match with me who enjoy to wear different outfits and create different looks! The pink one is so fresh for Summer and girly, while the brown ones matches almost all colors and is so chic!
The price of Votch’s timepieces is really accessible and every 3 months, Votch will proudly partner with different charities to donate a percentage of their profits from each watch to their charity of the season.
I also learned that each watch is made up of high-end components and is fitted with vegan leather straps in an array of different colours. My favourites were pink and black – in fact, I decided to gift my love with the black one, though I am really tempted to ‘borrow’ it from time to time!
