monodiet

I detoxed one week and it was the first one in my life! I loved it!

It was not as hard as everybody thinks and it gave me amazing feelings! Let me tell you about it!

A detox is about cleaning the organs of your body by following nutrition and lifestyle rules for a certain period. Doing this, it can help purge your liver, colon and kidneys of toxins; clear your skin; boost your energy; improve digestion and maybe even loose some kilos. It can improve every system in your body and do wonder for your health, mind and spirit.

According to Dr. Junger, the creator of the 21-Day Clean Program, purifying our body may be one of the most important health tools for the modern world. He explains that today we are exposed to more chemicals than ever before. This buildup in our bodies can cause skin issues, digestive problems, fatigue, brain fog, constipation and more. Consequently, the more the toxicity of modern life increases, the more the demands to detoxify have increased.

I personally can feel and see that my lifestyle (lots of travels, few hours of sleep, the hair and make-up products from modelling and so on) generates toxicity in my body. I can notice it sometimes through different ways that can vary from the conditions of my skin, hair, weight or mood. And you will also, if you try to pay attention and listen to your body.

My motive is not to make a strict detox because it is impossible in this period of my life and it would only make me more nervous; resulting in the opposite desired effects. But I want to incorporate a cleaner lifestyle by integrating some holistic and healthy manners.

My goals are to diminish sugar, coffee and alcohol; disconnect and slowdown so to give a break to my body and recuperate.

How:

I am not a doctor, therefore please do consult one if you decide to go for a long period of detox! Here you will find some guidelines that work perfectly for a little detox and that are also some basic healthy lifestyle rules.

First you need to want it and have the perfect moment to do it!

It is important to plan your detox and to organize the food and activities for the week in order to not derail your detox due to events, birthdays or stress. Another reason is that you might feel tired and have some headaches. Do not worry, they are the normal first reactions of a detox, called cleansing reactions that last 24h-48h at the beginning.

I found my perfect moment after the Christmas holidays because my friends were still all away and my work had not started yet. I had exactly one week! One week before my first job of the year! Therefore, I started it right away when Maxi and I came back from Argentina! I also could feel how my body needed a detox and a break!

monodiet

I began with a monodiet, which consists of eating one healthy, unique and same food during 3 days in the quantity that you want. It is recommended to eat up to 5-6 of the chosen food. A monodiet is to amplify the effects of the detox by cleaning the gut.  I chose kaki fruit because I love it and know that I can eat thousands of it without being disgusted. Choose which vegetable or fruit you prefer, as long as it is clean, healthy and at your taste!

Then, start your day with some hot lemon water 30 min before breakfast so to purify your body. There are many health benefits of drinking hot lemon water! Discover them on my article “Why I drink warm lemon water before breakfast”.

Avoid:

  • Alcohol
  • Cigarettes
  • Milk products except unsweetened natural yoghurt and vegetal milk
  • Grains: wheat (bread, biscuits, cakes, pasta), rye, oats, barley, spelt and rice.
  • Coffee or at least cut back. Coffee stimulates the release of stress hormones. Switch to green tea which boosts liver detox! Even better, go for matcha tea! It will give you more energy than coffee and a lot of health benefits!
  • Skip the sugar. Alternatives are fruits, natural honey, coconut or brown rice sugar, stevia.
  • Dried fruits
  • Juices because they are full of hidden sugar unless they are fresh ones!

Enjoy:

  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Fish
  • Lean red meat, chicken (without the skin). Limit to two serves per week.
  • Legumes
  • Eggs
  • Olive and coconut oil
  • Nuts (raw and unsalted)
  • Seeds (raw and unsalted)
  • Green, white, herbal and decaffeinated black tea
  • Water

Plan your meals! Decide what you are going to eat for the week so to ease the detox and avoid temptations. Think vegan because plant foods reduce inflammation. There are plenty of delicious detox recipes on the web! Enjoy them! You will realize that in the end it is not so hard to do a short detox and how good it was for you!

Go organic so to avoid toxins from pesticides, herbicides, hormones and other chemicals that hamper detox efforts.

Eat whole and superfoods because they are rich in healthy nutrients, fiber, vitamins, antioxidant and healing compounds that naturally detox the body (leafy greens, broccoli, blueberries, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, etc.).

Eat slowly and chew to ease digestion. It is important to be conscious of what you eat and eat in a peaceful atmosphere to not stimulate stress hormones.

Mediation is important during a detox.  It detoxes your soul, disconnects and relaxes. Breathing exercises are simple ways to counter excess of acid and balance your Ph, in addition to reducing stress. Meditate minimum 5 min daily.

Incorporate some stretching while doing your breathing exercises. Stretching stimulates circulation and lymph flow.

sauna when I detoxed

The skin is the largest organ so keep moving so to sweat the toxins out and stay fit. Likewise, do at least once a week a sauna o hot bath.

However, pay attention to your body. Don’t push it too hard, especially during the first week, if you have decided to go for a longer detox. Prefer light movements like yoga, walking and easy body weight exercises. Rest more if you need to.

Yoga is a perfect practice that combines sport, stretching and meditation.

Try hydrotherapy, brush your skin or make a peeling to boost and improve circulation, remove dead cells and tone your skin. A massage will also reduce stress and relief pain.

Unplug, disconnect! Our ultra-high-tech world is infecting our soul and body. Prefer family and friends’ connection!

And sleep! Get some good sleep and even schedule a nap whenever possible. It is deeply rejuvenating and stress releasing!
